Attitudes toward sustainability have certainly changed in the last few years. Since Al Gore’s landmark speech, featured in the documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, people are more conscious of the environmental consequences of their individual and collective actions. The definition of “waste” has changed considerably over the years. Since inception, Ward Group has constantly sought new ways to utilise waste materials; finding novel end-uses for a wide range of recovered and recycled materials. In 2007 alone, Ward Group recycled 250,000 tonnes of concrete. Recycling is a fundamental part of what we do. Some of our projects have reached recycling targets of up to 96% of salvaged material by weight. Ward Group has the ability to process waste material both on and off-site. This is often a critical factor in site management during the demolition and recovery phase of a project. Ward bins are used, allowing separation of recovered materials at source.
